Felicities Showroom Press Event
A few weeks ago, I became a Fashion and Style writer for online magazine The London Word. This means I have been lucky enough to attend fashion events as part of the press team. Here is a recent review I wrote about the Felicities Showroom press event last week, which showcased some of the hottest design talent around.
So it’s Autumn/Winter 13 press season, the time of year when
events are held all over the city for press to come and view firsthand the
upcoming collections. Last Thursday was
an event held in Felicities Showroom to do just this. With collections from lots of new and talented
designers, complete with strawberry vodka cocktails and delightful canapés,
what better way is there to spend an evening?
London designer Ada Zanditon, a graduate of London College
of Fashion who has recently been named one of fashion scouts ‘Ones to Watch’,
was without a doubt the stand out designer of the evening with her ‘March of
the Tigress’ line. The collection is a
powerful mix of strong, structured, architectural pieces, and bold digital
prints. Zanditon spoke to The London
Word about how her work was inspired by an imaginary journey through the eyes
of an Anna Karenina-like warrior princess.
The clothes were created with a warrior, traveller and feminine power in
mind, and this is reflected in the strong silhouettes of the collection. She has a passion for protection endangered
species, and this is the focal point and vision of her brand when creating each
collection.
As a firm believer in eco-friendly and sustainable fashion,
the collection featured donated human monk hair, that had been dyed to bright
yellow and light grey to add dramatic effect to the already powerful
collection. The ‘March of the Tigress’
line is an eclectic mix of dramatic monochrome, with bold shoulders and organic
leathers, and colourful prints on soft silks and sheer fabrics. All of the
fabrics used are ethically sourced, including organic cotton and end of line
fabrics from Burberry and Chanel, including the famous woven fabric used in
Chanel tweed jackets.
Katie Melua has recently revealed her support for the brand
when wearing one of the pieces on her album cover, and recently at Berlin
Fashion Week, adding to the recent hype surrounding the designer. Expect to see
a lot more from this young designer.
Jewellery designer Imogen Belfield was another major hit of
the evening with her organic, experimentalist jewellery. Again with a warrior inspired collection,
these beautiful pieces were all about knuckledusters, arm cuffs and slave
necklaces. Delicate porcelain fragments are enrobed in textured metals of
bronze, silver and gold to create intricate wearable pieces of art. Currently
being stocked in Selfridges, Imogen Belfield is an award winning designer that is
being featured in top editorials such as Harpers Bazaar.
During the day I met talented fashion photographer Allie Suwanrumpha, who was searching the streets of London for street style inspiration. Here are the images she took of me, and visit her website www.alliesuwanrumpha.com for more of her fantastic images.
